Set in more than 10 acres of landscaped gardens and grounds overlooking a lake surrounded by forest, Kania Lodge is 40 km west of Gdansk near the town of Kartuzy. Inspired by lodges in the southern hemisphere and particularly New Zealand, Kania Lodge combines the comfort and elegance of a country manor house with the friendliness and informality of a well-run inn. You’ll always feel you are a special guest and not just one of a crowd.
Attention to detail is what sets the lodge – named after the rare local Red Kite – apart from most other rural retreats in Poland. Our cooking, for example, is based almost entirely on fresh seasonal locally produced products. Filets of wild salmon baked in wine, herbs and butter are hugely popular and our roast duck breasts with a Calvados and quince sauce are an autumn treat, as are the soups made from wild mushrooms gathered from our own forests. And then there’s the wine, about which more later.
Of course eating and drinking is not all we are about, pleasurable as they may be. We offer stylish accommodation in apartments or suites. Each apartment or suite is different in shape, size and furnishings. They range from a small romantic attic room – it’s good to like the person you share this with – to a large two bedroom apartment with its own kitchen and a second bathroom. Several of the apartments have wood burning stoves. Nearly all have satellite television and every one of them has spectacular views over the lake and the surrounding countryside.

Rooms with a view
Our facilities include a tennis court, children’s playground, rowing boats, canoes and sailing boats as well as bicycles. We also have a beautifully tiled and equipped spa room with a jacuzzi and a sauna and you can book a professional massage at weekends and during the week.
The lodge prides itself in its wine cellar and tasting room – and its selection of wines which is possibly the most varied and original in Poland. While we have bottles from many big-name producers in our cellar – Chateau Margaux and Lynch Bages from France, Carpineto from Italy and Te Mata from New Zealand amongst them – we are most proud of some of the some of the smaller wineries we have discovered. Like Glen Carlou from South Africa, Kumeu River from New Zealand, Chateau Teyssier from France and The Colonial Estate from Australia, to name a few.

Dining room
We regularly do wine tastings and seminars and offer these gratis to companies holding meetings at the lodge. While the lodge is the perfect place for a weekend break, it’s also a popular corporate retreat.
We have a specially designed conference room which sits up to 30 and offers top flight facilities including Wi-Fi broadband internet access. There are two other rooms as well which can be used for smaller meetings or break-outs from the main conference.
Special integration events and exercises can be arranged by the professionals at Postero, our training company partner. Check out exactly what they can do for you. One of the popular activities we can organise for companies is a balloon ride over the stunning lakes and forests of Kaszubia – an unforgettable experience say the many guests who have been up, up and away.

Balloon rides from the lodge
Because we are no more than 30 minutes from the international airport in Gdansk, Kania Lodge is a convenient meeting venue for companies seeking not only solitude but easy access. We arrange airport and train station transfers for all our guests and the number of direct connections with the Gdansk is growing all the time. At last count there were daily flights to Warsaw, London, Frankfurt and Copenhagen as well as several flights weekly to Stockholm, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Munich.
Many guests never leave the lodge during their whole visit but if you want to explore there are many things to do. There are three golf courses, two of them championship courses, within an hour of the lodge and dozens of lakes and rivers for the keen angler.

From the lodge itself you can go cycling through unspoilt countryside without being bothered by cars and trucks. We have cycles for hire and tennis rackets for those who forget theirs and would like to use our court. We also have a horse and carriage for hire during the summer and a horse and sleigh in the winter when you can enjoy a traditional Polish coolig. In winter there is also skating on the lake and cross country skiing.
So come and stay sometime this year. Whether it’s a romantic getaway, a family weekend or top-level business meeting, Kania Lodge is Poland’s great escape.
